SALGIN HASTALIKLARIN YAŞLILAR ÜZERİNDEKİ ETKİLERİ

Abstract

Geçmişten günümüze salgın hastalıklar insanlık için sorun teşkil etmiştir. Dünya tarihi çeşitli salgınla karşı karşıya kalmıştır. İnsanlık tarihinin seyrini değiştiren önemli salgınlara bakıldığında Jüstinyen Vebası ile başlayan bu süreç Kara Ölüm, ardından Çiçek Virüsü, Kolera, H1N1, H3N2, AIDS, SARS, Domuz Gribi, Ebola, MERS ve son olarak tüm dünyanın karşı karşıya kaldığı Covid-19 ile devam etmiştir. Salgın hastalıkların en yıkıcı etkileri kuşkusuz yaşlı kesim üzerinde olmuştur. Bu anlamda, bu çalışma salgın hastalıkların yaşlılar üzerinde ne şekilde etkilerinin olduğunu ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır. Bu çalışma ile tarihten bugüne seyreden salgın hastalıkların yaşlılar üzerinde ne tür etkiler yarattığı tartışılacaktır. Salgının sebep olduğu hastalık riski, yalnızlık, sosyal izolasyon ve hizmetlere erişim sıkıntısı, fiziksel aktivite eksikliği, komorbiditesi olan yaşlıların yaşadığı zorluklar, yaşa dayalı ayrımcılık ve damgalanma riski, ölüm, intihar ve aşılanma başlıkları altında salgın hastalıklar ve yaşlılık ilişkisi incelenecek ve tartışmalar bu çerçevede yürütülecektir. Bu çalışmanın sağlık sosyolojisi literatürüne sağlık, hastalık ve yaşlılık arasındaki ilişkiye değinmesi anlamında önemli bir katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir.

Abstract

Epidemics have been a problem for humanity from past to present. World history has faced various epidemics. Considering the important epidemics that changed the course of human history, this process that started with the Justinian Plague continued with Black Death, then Smallpox Virus, Cholera, H1N1, H3N2, AIDS, SARS, Swine Flu, Ebola, MERS and finally Covid-19, which the whole world has faced. Undoubtedly, the most devastating effects of epidemics have been on the elderly population. In this sense, this study aims to reveal the effects of epidemic diseases on the elderly. With this study, the effects of epidemic diseases from history to the present on the elderly will be discussed. The relationship between epidemic diseases and old age will be examined under the headings of disease risk caused by the epidemic, loneliness, social isolation and access to services, lack of physical activity, difficulties experienced by the elderly with comorbidities, age-based discrimination and stigmatize risk, death, suicide and vaccination, and discussions will be carried out within this framework. It is thought that this study will make an important contribution to the health sociology literature in terms of addressing the relationship between health, illness and old age.
