Abstract

Narcissistic personality disorder attracts attention as the new borderline personality disorder of the day. Especially recent developments make it necessary to examine narcissistic personality disorder closely. In this study, narcissism is treated as a personality disorder and the developments in this context are discussed and what psychotherapy can offer regarding the treatment of the disorder is evaluated. In the study, first of all, the concept of narcissism is briefly introduced and the history of the concept as a personality disorder is reviewed. Then, the characteristics of narcissism as a personality disorder and perspectives on its treatment are examined. In the last part of the study, the roles that the basic concepts of psychodynamic therapy can play in the treatment of narcissistic personality disorder are evaluated. This section discusses the potential contributions of both theory and practice. The study concludes with a common framework discussion on how psychotherapy can be a factor in the treatment of narcissistic personality disorder.
